About CraftCut

CraftCut is a browser-based furniture design tool that takes you from initial concept to workshop-ready production documents — panel layout, optimized cut lists, 3D preview, and step-by-step assembly guides, all without leaving your browser.

The Problem

Designing custom furniture from sheet materials (plywood, MDF, melamine) involves a tedious chain of disconnected steps: sketching on paper, manually computing panel dimensions, working out optimal cuts to minimize waste, and somehow producing clear instructions for the workshop.

Existing tools are either expensive professional CAD software with steep learning curves, or simple calculators that only handle one piece of the puzzle. There was a gap for a tool that connects the full workflow, is easy to pick up, and doesn't require installation or an account.

The Approach

CraftCut was designed around a few core principles:

Privacy First

Your designs never leave your device. Everything runs client-side with local storage — no servers, no accounts, no telemetry on your work.

Full Pipeline

Design, optimize, preview, and print from one interface. No switching between tools or exporting between formats.

Workshop Ready

Every output is practical: printable cut lists with dimensions, visual cutting diagrams, panel labels, and assembly booklets.

Open Source

The entire codebase is public. Inspect it, learn from it, suggest improvements, or fork it for your own purpose.

Technology

CraftCut is built with modern web technologies and runs entirely in the browser as a progressive web application (PWA). It works offline once loaded and can be installed to your device's home screen.
